Jack Caldwell has been in or around and about the music business for 44 years. From playing folk clubs with acts like Aztec Two Step and Livingston Taylor in the 80’s to playing 3500 seat halls with acts like Suzanne Vega and Bonnie Raitt, Jack has put the miles in. The 90’s saw him continuing to hone his craft on the live circuit while also continuing to write and record. In the 2000’s he recorded two albums, As Sweet As I Remember You and Edge Of The Beginning, co-produced by Colin Tilton (Van Morrison, Etta James) and built his own studio which led to a string of self produced records. “They say the difference between an amateur and a professional is about 10,000 hours.” Jack laughs and says, “I probably have about 25,000 hours in, just not all in a row. Even when I wasn’t playing music, I was playing music.” 

Jack continues, “I’ve played with some great people over the years and feel very lucky to have forged the relationships I have.” 

In 2019, producer, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and Dirt Floor Recording & Production owner Eric Michael Lichter called Jack explaining that he had just been interviewed and one of the questions asked was, “Is there anyone you would like to produce but haven’t?” Eric’s answer to Jack: “You! You were the person I thought of!” 

In 2019 Jack and Eric embarked on what became the latest release, Surrounded By Echoes. They endured the Covid shutdown after which Eric’s studio was booked to capacity for months at a time, but somehow, through the masks and the months they got it done. 

Jack explains, “I like the idea that I can put this out there and people have nothing to lose by listening to it. It won’t cost them anything extra on their streaming service. Maybe they’ll find something in it to bring them solace or something just to tap their toe to. Maybe fans of Mellencamp or James Taylor, Jackson Browne or even Jason Isbell can listen to it and hear a new voice - a familiar genre but a new voice with something to say in a way they haven’t heard before. People my age are always saying, ‘There’s no good new music!’ Well, yes there is. Here it is! Just give it a listen.”
